Bison track and field team host inaugural Bison Classic meet at the Max Bell Fieldhouse on Sat., Feb. 6
Over 350 athletes from nine different universities have entered the event

The Manitoba Bisons track and field team is pleased to announce they are hosting the inaugural Bison Classic meet on Saturday, February 6 at the Max Bell Fieldhouse (U of Manitoba campus). The event (that was formerly called the Cargill Games) will start at 9:30 a.m. and run until approx. 9 p.m.

The first-time event will boast over 350 athletes from nine different universities (Victoria, Lethbridge, Calgary, Alberta, Regina, Saskatchewan, Lakehead, Ottawa and Manitoba). There are will also be club athletes competing from Manitoba, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and New Brunswick.

In addition to numerous top ranked CIS athletes in attendance at the Bison Classic, some recent Canadian National team members will be in competition. Seyi Smith (Ottawa Lions) will be entered in the men's 60m; Esther Akinsulie (Ottawa Lions) in the women's 300m; Ammon Nelson (U of Calgary) in the women's 300m and Sam Effah (U of Calgary) in the men's 300m.

Manitoba Bisons athletes to look for during the Bison Classic are:
- Caley Miskimmin and Lisa Wong in the women's 60m (4th and 6th ranked in CIS)
- Teresa Logozar and Rossel Sabourin in the pole vault (3rd and 10th in CIS)
- Garth Suppes in the weight throw (1st in CIS)
- Josh Gundrum in the triple jump (5th in CIS)
- Also both men's and women's 4 x 200m relays

Bison Track and Field head coach Claude Berube said, “I am excited that we will be hosting the first ever Bison Classic at the start of February. It is our intention to build this event throughout the years with a strong and diverse field from across the country.”

The admission to the Bison Classic is $2 at the door for entry for spectators 13 years old and older.


Track and Field Notes: The elementary part of the Bison Classic will be run on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at the Max Bell Fieldhouse. Heading into the Classic, the Bison women’s T&F team is No. 10 ranked in latest CIS poll while the Bison men’s T&F team is No. 13.
