2010 playoff picture shaping up for Manitoba Bisons teams
Two of six team sports qualify for post-season; men’s volleyball and hockey seek to clinch

Here is a rundown of the playoff picture shaping up for the Manitoba Bisons teams. So far, two of the six team sports have qualified for post-season action with men’s volleyball and hockey seeking to clinch a spot at the end of the 2009-10 Canada West regular season.
Women’s Volleyball
Currently ranked #3 in the nation, Manitoba completes the conference regular season by hosting the Saskatchewan Huskies on Feb. 12-13. The Bisons are currently in second place in the Canada West standings with a 13-5 record. If Manitoba holds onto second spot, they will host the seventh place team in the first round of Canada West playoffs. The best-of-three series will be played from February 19-21 at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (U of Manitoba campus) with times to be announced in the near future. Women’s Hockey
Currently ranked #6 in the nation, Manitoba secured second place in the Canada West standings with two weeks remaining in the conference regular season. They hold an impressive 18-4-0 record with two games left playing Alberta at home on Feb. 19-20. The best-of-three Canada West Semi-Final series has Manitoba hosting the #7 Saskatchewan Huskies at the end of February with dates and times to be determined in the near future. Men’s Hockey
Currently ranked #8 in the nation, Manitoba is in second place in the Canada West standings with four games remaining in the conference regular season. They hold a 14-8-2 record and are three points ahead of third place Saskatchewan (who have two games in hand), five points ahead of fourth place Calgary and seven points ahead of fifth place Lethbridge. Four teams qualify for the post-season and the top two teams will host Canada West first round of playoffs. Men’s Volleyball
Currently ranked #10 in the nation, Manitoba is in the seventh and final playoff spot in Canada West with a 7-9 record. The Bisons completes the conference regular season by hosting the Saskatchewan Huskies on Feb. 12-13 and must at least split the weekend home series against the eighth place Saskatchewan Huskies to capture a playoff spot. The Bisons have one game remaining in the conference regular season as they travel to play the Winnipeg Wesmen on Thursday, Feb. 11. The Herd just fell short of a playoff position as they enter the final week of their 2009-10 season with a 7-12 record. Men’s Basketball

The Bisons have qualified three swimmers (women: Kerri-Ann Bochen and two men: Riley Pickerl and Casey Gergely) for the 2010 CIS Swimming Championships held in Toronto on Feb. 18-20.
Track and Field
The Bisons will compete at the 2010 Canada West T&F Championships on Feb. 26-27 in Edmonton. This will be the last best chance for athletes to qualify for the 2010 CIS T&F Championship in Windsor, ON running from Mar. 11-13. Manitoba has so far qualified Garth Suppes in men’s weight toss, Teresa Logozar in the women’s pole vault and Caley Miskimmin in the women’s 60m to the CIS Championship.
