Starting in the 2013-14 season, there is a unique aspect to the season for the Manitoba Bisons. Four Bison head coaches have their children participating for Manitoba this season. In addition, Bison Sports Athletic Director Coleen Dufresne's son is a Bison in 2013-14.
In women's volleyball, Bison Football head coach Brian Dobie will be cheering on his daughter, second year libero Caleigh Dobie while Bison men's volleyball head coach Garth Pischke (on leave this season) will be in the stands to support his daughter third year left side hitter Taylor Pischke. Garth's son Dane Pischke just completed his five years at Manitoba in the 2012-13 season.
In track and field, Bison T&F head coach Claude Berube will watch his daughter competed in her first year in sprints while Bison T&F sprint coach Alex Gardiner has his daughter Blair Gardiner in her first year of middle distance.Â
Bison Sports Athletic Director Coleen Dufresne also has her son Nick Stewner as a Bison on the men's volleyball roster in his first year of university.
This is the first time there are five Bison staff (coach and administration) to have their daughter or son competing at the same time in the same season as they are with the Manitoba Bisons.
