Bison men’s basketball team prepares for 48th annual Wesmen Classic that runs from December 28-30 at U of Winnipeg

Manitoba looks to improve on a third place finish in the 2013 edition

The Bison men's basketball head into the holiday break after a very successful first half of the 2014-15 Canada West conference season. Manitoba sits in second place in the Pioneers Division with an 8-2 record and is on a three game conference winning streak while also riding a six game winning streak at home this season while not losing once at IGAC during conference play so far. 

The Bisons now prepare for the 48th annual Wesmen Classic, which runs from December 28-30 at U of Winnipeg. Manitoba looks to improve on a third place finish in the 2013 edition.

In this year edition of the Wesmen Classic, the other varsity teams attending are Brandon, Alberta, Calgary, Regina, Lakehead, NAIT and host Winnipeg. The Winnipeg Wesmen will announce the full schedule for the Classic.

In this conference men's basketball season, the Bisons are first in scoring offence at 85.4 points per game and tenth in scoring defence at 75.5 points per game. In Canada West free throw attempts, Manitoba is third with 255 while tied for ninth in 3-point percentage at 31.5%. In overall rebounding, the Bisons are first at 48.3 per game plus tied for first in defensive rebounding at 32.1 per game. The Herd also ninth in field goal shooting at 42.6%, fourth with 15.4 assists per game and second in steals per game at 9.6. 

Individually, A.J. Basi leads the team and sixth in Canada West scoring at 18.3 points per game while Wyatt Anders is second in conference rebounds per game at 11.5. Jonathan Alexander is 12th in Canada West field goal shooting at 52.0% after ten conference games.
