The eighth annual Hoops From The Heart fundraiser event was a huge success on June 1, 2016 at the University of Winnipeg. Both University of Manitoba and Winnipeg varsity players were involved in annual event that raises money towards heart research and for scholarships for inner city youth.

There was two games played that pitted a combined university men's squad versus a Manitoban All-Stars and in the women's match had the University of Manitoba Bisons against the University of Winnipeg Wesmen. 

Over 100 inner city youth were in attendance to watch the two games while they also received a complementary meal, presented with their own Hoops From The Heart T-shirt, plus a basketball that was signed by one of the players. In addition, the players interacted with the student youths as they had the opportunity to shoot baskets and receive tips from the athletes before watching the games.

The proceeds of the games have also helped to create a scholarship specifically for an inner city youth to go to either the University of Manitoba or the University of Winnipeg to play basketball while part of the money raised also helps heart research at St. Boniface Hospital. 

There should be close to $20,000 for each of the scholarships raised from this year's edition (including matching funds from the government).
