Bison men's hockey goaltender Byron Spriggs signed to an amateur tryout agreement by the AHL's American Hockey League) Manitoba Moose. Spriggs dresses for the Moose as an emergency back-up as Manitoba host Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg.
Spriggs, 23, completed his third season with the Bison men's hockey team and started in 22 of 28 conference regular season games during the 2016-17 season. The Winnipeg native was sixth in the Canada West conference in Goals Against Average at 2.82 while fifth in conference with .913 Save Percentage along with third with three conference shutouts and had a 12-8 record as the Herd finished fifth in the regular season.
In three seasons at Manitoba, Spriggs has played in 44 conference regular season games with a 22-18 record with a 3.00 GAA and .907 Save Pct. plus four shutouts. He has also played in five playoff games with a 2-3 record.
Earlier in 2016-17, Spriggs was selected as the Canada West Male Second Star of the Week for the week ending October 23, 2016 as he backstopped Manitoba with 64 total saves and only allowed four goals during a two game road series sweep at Regina from Oct. 21-22.
Bison Notes: On Thursday, March 9, 2017, Spriggs dressed for the AHL's Charlotte Checkers as an emergency back-up against host Manitoba Moose at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg.
