Bison women’s soccer announce Aldo Da Pozzo as an assistant coach for the 2017 season

Da Pozzo joins the program along side Bison head coach Vanessa Martinez Lagunas in her fifth year and will be one of three assistant coaches this season

The Bison women's soccer team opens their 13th season in U SPORTS action in 2017 and the team is proud to announce new assistant coach Aldo Da Pozzo.

The Mexican international shares the same hometown as Bison women's soccer head coach Vanessa Martinez Lagunas, in her fifth year, and joins the women's soccer team coaching staff on a volunteer basis. He will be one of three assistant coaches this season.

"Vanessa invited me to help the team and we will work toward our objectives," commented Da Pozzo.

Da Pozzo, 50, brings his vast soccer experience to the Bisons as in the past 21 seasons, he has been involved in management of various men's professional clubs in the Mexican first, second and third division, while having a role with the country's national men's team. The former club soccer player (1980-93) started off his coaching career with his university team in Mexico, which included Martinez Lagunas as a player.

Da Pozzo fulfilled more than one position in his time with the Mexican domestic leagues. He took charge of the head coach duties and also some physical trainer duties in other teams. He finished as runners-up in the league in his very first year with a men's professional club.

One of the highlights of his career includes his role as the assistant physical trainer of the Mexican men's national team in the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup – a tournament in which Mexico captured the title following a 1-0 win in the final against favorites Brazil.

Vanessa Martinez talked about the addition of Da Pozzo to the Bison coaching staff, "I am very excited to welcome Aldo to our team as a volunteer assistant coach. He was one of the best coaches I ever had during my playing career. He has lots of coaching experience at the highest levels of both women's and men's soccer in Mexico. Aldo will help us to keep raising the competitive level of our team, especially this year in which we will be hosting the U SPORTS Women's Soccer National Championship from November 9-12."
