There were no early week blues for Bison golf in Bemidji, Minnesota, as both the men's and women's teams had strong finishes despite windy fall conditions.
The men competed in the Bemidji State University Invitational, played at Bemidji Town & Country Club, and got their first win of the season. The team scored +3 (579) over the two-day tournament, a full nine strokes ahead of second place Bemidji State.
Leading the way individually for the Herd was fourth-year
Josh Neufeld, who shot the low round of the day on Tuesday, a 69, to finish even par (144) and tied for second overall. The low round of the tournament was also credited to the Bisons, as fifth-year
Devon Schade shook off flu symptoms to score a remarkable seven-under 65 on Monday.
Â
Schade scored an 81 on Tuesday to finish +2 and tied for eighth overall.
Rounding out the performances for the Bison men were fifth-year
Jack Werhun (+2, 146), fifth-year
Jeff Bleue (+5, 149), and second-year
Cameron McIntyre (+8, 152).
Â
The Bison women, meanwhile, competed in the Tracy Lane Memorial — also at Bemidji Town & Country Club. The Herd finished fourth out of seven teams, shooting a 701 (+125).
Second-year
Marissa Naylor continued her torrid stretch of play, shooting 82 and 76 to finish +14 (158), good for solo second place. It's the second time this season Naylor has posted the best score for Manitoba, following a T-1
st finish at University of Jamestown in August.
Rounding out the performances for the Bison women were third-year
Brynn Todd (+35, 179), first-year
Coral Zamzow (+37, 181), first-year Dayna Dubnicoff (+39, 183), and second-year
Kathlyn Santiano (+53, 197).
Â
Next up, the Bison golf teams split up for a North Dakota trip this weekend. The women's team plays in the Jamestown Fall Invitational on September 16-17 (Jamestown, ND), while the men's team plays at the Crookston Fall Invite on the same days (Grand Forks, ND).
