Football Press Release

Jackson Tachinski and Jessica Tsai are Boston Pizza Athletes of the Week

Tachinski let Manitoba on a game-winning drive tp beat Regina, Tsai broke the program record for shots on goal.

Career days for Jackson Tachinski and Jessica Tsai have earned them Boston Pizza Athlete of the Week honours.

Since returning from a week two injury, Bisons quarterback Jackson Tachinski has put up a combined 1,059 yards in the air and on the ground, along with nine total touchdowns and no interceptions. His most recent performance against Regina in a 34-27 win has earned him Canada West Offensive Player of the Week honours for the second time in as many weeks.

With the game tied at 27, Tachinski drove his Bisons over 80 yards in just over two minutes, completing passes to five different players along with the game-winning rushing touchdown on a read option play to give the Herd their third win in a row.

Overall, Tachinski completed passes to nine different players for a second game in a row, throwing two touchdowns along with the rushing major. His 332 yards through the air broke his prior single game record of 323, set just two weeks prior. On the season, Tachinski has thrown for a career-high 1,073 yards, while his five rushing majors lead Canada West.

On the pitch, Bisons captain Jessica Tsai needed just one shot on goal to tie the Bisons soccer all-time career record entering the final game of the regular season. She did that and then some, recording a season and career-high six to set a new program mark of 91.

The prior afternoon, Tsai's lone shot was critical. She scored her first career goal on a penalty kick, as the Bisons tied Regina 4-4 in a thriller.

Tsai's first shot on net the following dat (to tie the prior record) was an absolute beauty. Well known for her accurate delivery on corner kicks, she stayed true to form, bending a shot perfectly that Sask's goalie was unable to handle, for a goal. Unfortunately a controversial foul was called on Manitoba, negating the goal, however the shot still counted.

Tsai was a constant presence the rest of the way. Despite playing centre back, she was still able to record a season and career best six shots, including a few on free kicks from a ways out.
