Hoop dreams are alive and well this weekend, as the University of Manitoba Bisons men's and women's basketball teams get their seasons started at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (IGAC).
The two teams take the court for home openers against the UBC Okanagan Heat on Friday, November 1 at 6pm (women) and 8pm (men).
Both Bisons teams are looking to build on last year, when they made the playoffs. The men are led by fifth-year point guard
Rashawn Browne, who led the conference in assists two seasons ago and was a Canada West Third Team All-Star in 2018-19, mixing a nightly highlight reel with his ability to get to the rim and shoot from outside.
For the women, fourth-year
Taylor Randall is similarly exciting to watch from the point guard position. Able to distribute the ball, Randall also averaged 16.7 points last season and has been a Canada West Third Team All-Star the last two seasons.
The women's game on Friday is also a special night, as it's the annual Shoot for the Cure game. Women's basketball teams from across Canada will be raising breast cancer awareness and money for cancer care. Wear pink and cheer loud for your Bisons!
