Men's Hockey Bison Sports Press Release

MHKY: Bisons add veteran goaltender Riley Lamb for the 2019-20 season

Lamb previously played 88 games in the WHL with Swift Current and Red Deer and is a native of Rivers, Manitoba.

WINNIPEG, MB — The Manitoba Bison men's hockey team continue to build up their roster for the 2019-20 season with the addition of goalie Riley Lamb, a veteran local talent who last played in the Western Hockey League (WHL).

Lamb, 20, is a 6'0", 175-pound goalie who is a veteran of 88 WHL games with the Swift Current Broncos and Red Deer Rebels. Most recently, the Rivers, Manitoba native played 15 games with the Broncos in 2018-19, where he had a save percentage of .898 and a GAA of 4.75.

Lamb was also excellent in two seasons in Red Deer, where he made two post-season trips with the Rebels. The goalie dressed in a career-high 41 contests during his WHL rookie season, going 14-12-5-3 with three shutouts, a 3.39 goals-against average and .899 save percentage. He followed that up with 32 appearances in 2017-18, registering a record of 13-11-3-2 with one shutout, a 3.27 GAA and .902 SV%.

"We are excited to welcome veteran goaltender Riley Lamb to the Manitoba Bisons," said Bisons head coach Mike Sirant.

"An off-season priority for the Bisons was to recruit a quality goaltender to help fill the roster vacancies left by graduating players Byron Spriggs, Justin Paulic, and Dasan Sydora. We've accomplished that with the signing of Riley Lamb who, along with Tyler Brown, will give the Bisons excellent goaltending. Riley is a very competitive player and a good teammate who can provide leadership in the room."

Prior to the WHL, Lamb was successful with the Yellowhead Chiefs of the Manitoba AAA Hockey League in 2015-16, recording a 1.82 GAA and .939 save percentage in 29 games.

"Joining the Bisons will be a good experience," said Lamb. "It's great hockey and I want to keep playing at a high level. I'm also excited to be close to home, which is never a bad thing."

Lamb joins defenceman Brady Pouteau (Regina, Lethbridge) as WHL recruits to join Bison men's hockey in 2019-20. They will be taking advantage of the WHL Scholarship, which rewards former players who exemplify academic excellence.
