Academic All Canadians

History

Athletes who achieve an academic standing of 80% or better while playing on a university varsity team are recognized as Academic All-Canadians. The largest number in the school's history, 194, accomplished this standing in 2020-21. Since 1990, Academic All-Canadian status has been earned a total of 2,549 times by various Bisons.

The University of Manitoba consistently ranks among the country’s top ten universities for producing the most Academic All-Canadians. Additionally, U SPORTS recognizes the top eight (previously ten due to GPAC and CanWest being different conferences) Academic All-Canadians across the country, with one female and one male from each of the four conferences. For eight consecutive years, from 1993-2001, the Bisons had a top ten Academic All-Canadian. Overall, the Herd have had 16 different student-athletes earn this honour: 

  • 2022-23: Madisson Lawrence -- Track and Field
  • 2019-20: Kelsey Wog – Swimming
  • 2016-17: Geoff Gray â€“ Football
  • 2013-14: Brittany Habing â€“ Women's Volleyball
  • 2009-10: Thomas Hall – Football
  • 2006-07: Katie Davidson – Women’s Volleyball
  • 2004-05: Paul Deniset – Men’s Hockey
  • 2001-02: Joey Mikawoz – Football (GPAC)
  • 1998-99: Nadia Melon – Women’s Volleyball (GPAC)
  • 1997-98: Kathy Hrehirchuk – Women’s Volleyball (GPAC)
  • 1996-97: Amanda Mlodzinski – Women’s Swimming (GPAC)
  • 1995-96: Jackie Honey – Women’s Track and Field (GPAC)
  • 1995-96: Mel McManus – Men’s Track and Field (GPAC)
  • 1994-95: Renelda Friessen – Women’s Volleyball (GPAC)
  • 1994-95: Wayne Weathers – Football and Wrestling (GPAC)
