Bisons soccer will be well represented at the Canadian Futsal Championship, taking place from April 10-13 in Regina. The Canadian Championship is Canada Soccer's highest domestic club competition for futsal, a unique, fast-paced, five-per-side indoor sport played across Canada and around the world.
Current Bisons Alex Paul,
Paris Sidhu and
Chloe Morin, along with alumni
Jessica Tsai and Anna Biebrich will represent Winnipeg 1v1 Futbol during the event. They will play Whitehorse Yukon Selects FC on April 10, Native Indian FA Pacific FC (British Columbia) on April 11 and Underdogs FC (Quebec) on April 12. Overall, eight different teams from across the country will compete at the Canadian Championship.
Paul is the longest-serving member of Manitoba's roster, debuting in the 2019 season. A vocal, physical and fearless midfielder (will play the Ala, or wing position at the Canadian Championship), she scored a career-high two goals in 2021, and has started 38 regular season contests as a Bison. Prior to her time at Manitoba, Paul played age advanced at club nationals and has suited up against Julia Grosso, who scored the game-winning penalty kick for Canada at the 2020 Olympics to secure gold.
Sidhu has played in 49 games for Manitoba since 2021, starting 17, including all 14 contests during the 2024 season. A proven scorer, the forward (will play on the wing at the Canadian Championship) out of TSS Academy in British Columbia has recorded a point every year of her Bisons career, including a career-high four (including two goals) last year.
A long-time teammate of Sidhu's, including at TSS Academy, Morin is an elite facilitator at the midfield position (will also play wing at the Canadian Championship). She has played in 47 games since 2021 for Manitoba, starting 35, including 27 over the last two campaigns. Morin has recorded a point in each of the last three seasons, including her first career U SPORTS goal against UNBC in a 3-1 win on September 11, 2022. She tallied career highs in shots (14) and shots on goal (11) in 2024.
Tsai didn't miss a start in her storied Bisons career, which concluded following the 2024 campaign. A four-year captain, the midfielder (will play the pivot position as a central attacker at the event) holds school records in games started (70) and career shots on goal (121), while her 24 career assists rank second all-time.
A captain at the local club level, Biebrich played in five games for Manitoba as netminder in 2019, starting three. She posted shutouts in her first two career starts, posting clean sheets in back-to-back games against Thompson Rivers and UBC Okanagan on September 19 and 20, respectively.
