Manitoba Bisons defensive back Connor Lesperance made an immediate impact despite not starting the game as he had two key interceptions (for 45 interception return yards) against the conference leader in pass offence. #10 Manitoba defeated the Regina Rams by a 34-15 result at home on Saturday, September 28 to improve to 3-2 on the season.

The rookie defensive back came off the bench after starter Jordan Linnen was ejected for the game midway through the second quarter and thrust into a starting role.

With Regina trying to get back into the contest at the end of the third, Lespernace had his first interception against backup John Kiesman as the Rams were deep in Bison territory and made a toe-tap catch on the sidelines on a tipped ball to end the threat. On the second interception, Regina had narrowed the lead to 12 points early in the fourth and the 5'11, 195 lbs. player jumped up high to pick the ball off as Regina started the drive at mid-field and had a 45 yard return. With the great field position off the interception, the Bisons scored on the ensuing possession and salted the game away with a touchdown.

Lesperance added two solo tackles in the victory.

The Winnipeg native has played in all five conference games so far this season in his rookie campaign and registered 12.0 tackles with two break-ups and two interceptions in 2013.

In week six, the Bisons finish off their regular season home schedule when they host the UBC Thunderbirds at Investors Group Field on Saturday, October 5 at 1 p.m. CT. Tickets available at: ticketmaster.ca
