#10 Bison Football plays final regular season home game of 2013 against UBC

Manitoba sits at 3-2 while UBC is 2-3 heading into weekend action

The #10 Manitoba Bisons football team plays final regular season home game of 2013 in their new stadium – Investors Group Field – on the U of Manitoba Fort Garry campus against the UBC Thunderbirds. This is the second meeting of this season between the teams as Manitoba won 36-32 on the road after overcoming a 17 point fourth quarter deficit with less than six minutes left in the contest on Sat., Sept. 14 in week three.

Manitoba is now 3-2 in the 2013 conference season after a 34-15 home win over Regina on Sat., Sept. 28 in week five. UBC lost 17-12 at home to then #7 Saskatchewan on Sat., Sept. 28 and fell to 2-3 in the season. 

This game has playoff implications as both teams are battling for a top spot in Canada West the season as the schedule is into the second half. #3 Calgary stays in first place with a perfect 5-0 record then now #6 Saskatchewan is in second at 4-1 (and both have clinched a playoff berth) followed by third place Manitoba and fourth place UBC with Regina out of a playoff spot in fifth at 1-4 and Alberta in last with an 0-5 record.

Last season, the Bisons won both game between the two teams by a 37-31 score at Manitoba (Oct. 20/12) and 31-24 at UBC (Sept. 1/12). Officially, Manitoba has now won the last seven conference regular season games played against the T-Birds dating back to 2009 season.

In 2013 conference regular season stats, Manitoba is second in scoring offence (38.6 points per game) while UBC is fifth (30.2). On scoring defence, UBC is tied for third (31.4) and Manitoba is also third with 31.4. On total offence, the Bisons are second with 529.4 yards per game while the Thunderbirds are sixth at 412.6. On total defence, UBC is fourth (466.8 yards per game) and Manitoba is fifth (485.4). Individually, Anthony Coombs leads the conference in all-purpose yards with 1,119 and second with eight overall TDs while Jordan Yantz is second in Canada West passing with 1,546 yards and first with 15 TDs.
