Bison Football plays Alberta on the road on Saturday, October 26 with a 6 p.m. CT kickoff and chance to host playoff game

Manitoba at 4-3 while Alberta at 0-7 with one conference game left in 2013 season

In the final conference regular season game of the 2013 season, the Manitoba Bisons football team plays Alberta Golden Bears (0-7) on Saturday, October 26 with a 6 p.m. CT kickoff and chance to host playoff game.

Heading in the weekend action, Manitoba is in a three-way tie in the Canada West conference with Saskatchewan and UBC with a 4-3 record.

The Bisons will know prior to the game what is left to do to clinch second place and host a playoff game at Investors Group Field. If UBC loses at Calgary (7-0) on Friday, October 25, then Manitoba has to defeat Alberta (regardless of margin) to earn second place. If UBC defeats Calgary, Manitoba could still capture second if they win and Saskatchewan loses at Regina (2-5) and then the tie between UBC will be broken by overall conference points differential which UBC holds the tie-breaker as of now by 34 points. Lastly, if all three teams remain tied at the end of the 2013 Canada West season, Saskatchewan will be second, Manitoba third and UBC fourth because of game record played between the two other teams this season.

This is the second meeting of this season between the teams as Manitoba won 65-41 to open the season at home on August 30 7/13. Last season, Manitoba won the conference regular season series against Alberta (Manitoba won 51-38 at Manitoba on Sept. 22/12) and overall during Brian Dobie's 18 year tenure has a 4-6-1 conference regular season record versus the Bears on the road and overall is 11-12-1 in regular season.

Alberta has not won on the field results since the 2010 conference season when they beat Manitoba 46-21 on Oct. 23/10.

In 2013 conference regular season stats, Manitoba is second in scoring offence (35.7 points per game) while Alberta is sixth (24.3). On scoring defence, the Bisons are fourth  (32.3) and the Bears are last with 51.3. On total offence, the Bisons are second with 509.7 yards per game while the Bears are sixth at 442.9. On total defence, Manitoba is fifth (483.7 yards per game) and Alberta is sixth (608.4). Individually, Anthony Coombs leads the conference in all-purpose yards at 1,399 and second with nine overall TDs while Jordan Yantz is second in Canada West passing with 2,104 yards and first with 20 TDs.
