CALGARY- The University of Calgary Dinos played their most complete game of the season and Amanda Tapp notched her first shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over the University of Manitoba Bisons at the Father David Bauer Arena on Saturday, October 26 afternoon.
Calgary was a different team in comparison to Friday night's loss. Scoring a goal in each period, the Dinos played their best hockey of the season. Janelle Parent had a two-goal performance and Amanda Tapp kept all 22 shots in front of her for the 11th shutout of her CIS career.
Calgary improves to 3-4-1 with today's win, while Manitoba falls to 4-3-1.
Through 20 minutes of play it was apparent the Dinos weren't going to let the Bisons walk over them again.
With Manitoba on the power play midway through the first, it looked like they'd get their first of the game when Michelle Pawluk had a wide open net only to be stopped by Tapp's glove.
Calgary however would be the first to strike. With two minutes left in the first and on the power play, Stephanie Zvonkovic's shot was redirected from the point and beat the Bisons' Amanda Schubert for her first of the season.
Showing the poise of a two-time Canada West finalist the Dinos really began to control the puck and the game in the second period.
Midway through the middle stanza as Manitoba had just finished killing a penalty, Parent wrapped her third of the season in. Connecting on a pass from Heather Berzins, Schubert was caught off-guard as the Dinos increased their lead to two.
Manitoba's strongest opportunity of the period came near the end when Charity Price managed to get around both of Calgary's defencemen, only to hit the post.
Just five minutes into the third frame, Parent found her second goal of the game. Picking up a loose puck from a scramble in front of Schubert, Parent put the puck upstairs to reaffirm Calgary's lead.
Calgary was 50 percent on the power play again going 1-2. Manitoba was held without a goal through 4 power plays.
The Dinos' will be on the road next weekend, Nov 1-2 as they play the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in Saskatoon. Action will get underway at 7 p.m. both nights.
The Bisons will return home to host the University of Regina Cougars in a two game set, Nov 1-2 at the Wayne Fleming Arena.
