The #7 women's volleyball team the Manitoba Bisons won over Saskatchewan in straight sets (25-23, 25-17, 25-18) on Saturday, November 9. After winning in three sets against the Huskies last night the Bisons did it again. It's the second weekend at home that they have swept the weekend 3-0 for all games. The Bisons lost last weekend at #1 UBC in both games of a weekend series.
After the Huskies took an early lead in the first set, the Bisons recovered to bring it back. It was a close fight to the finish with long rallies and many nice kills from both sides. Manitoba left side Crystal Mudler threw four strong spikes down for her team. Bison defense was fierce with eight block attacks. The took the set (25-23).
The Bisons started the second and third sets ahead and they held their lead throughout. The Huskies pushed to close the gap but unfortunately for Saskatchewan the Bisons still took both.
Huskie outside hitter Anne Hanbidge put up the most points for her team with 10 kills. Crystal Mudler earned a game high of 11 kills. Mudler played powerful defence and worked very well with her team.
Head coach Kent Bentley relies on Mudler to keep the team together and on track.
"She's kind of one of the rocks of the team," says Bentley.
The Manitoba is now 4-2 for the 2013-14 season and Saskatchewan sits at 3-3.
The Bisons will play at home again next weekend against Brandon. The weekend series will be held at Investor Group Athletic Centre (U of M Campus). On November 15 first serve will be at 6 p.m. CST and on November 16 it will be at 5 p.m CST.
