The Manitoba Bisons women's hockey team completes their recruiting class for the 2013-14 season by announcing one more new recruit. Bisons women's hockey head coach Jon Rempel, in his tenth season at Manitoba, is pleased to announce the commitment of Caitlin Fyten (pronounced: Fight-in) to the Bison program for the upcoming 2013-14 season.
Fyten, 18, is a 5'7" defenceman that played the 2012-13 season with the Edge School Mountaineers in the Female Midget Junior Women's Hockey League (JWHL). In 2012-13, the Cremona, AB native finished with eight points (two goals, six assists) with 36 penalty minutes in 28 regular season games. She also registered 11 points (2g, 9a) with 28 penalty minutes in 31 regular season games with Edge School in 2011-12.
In addition, Fyten has had experience at the provincial level. She was a member of the Under-18 Team Alberta in 2012; she won gold medal at Alberta Winter Games in 2010 and Alberta female skill champion plus placed fifth in Canadian female skills competition in 2008. Fyten earned Grade 10 honour roll status.
"Caitlin is a tough, physical defenceman that brings a wealth of experience to our program. Playing for an Edge of Excellence team that had a tremendous year, she was able to continue to improve her game and play against tough opponents in pressure situations this past season," commented Rempel. "She is a student of the game that comes from a good hockey family. Her decision-making and ability to be hard on people will be a great addition to the Bison family. Caitlin is also very solid academically and we look forward to having her discipline, dedication plus work ethic both on the ice and in the classroom."
In addition, Fyten's brother Austin has played in the American Hockey League with Texas Stars in 2012-13 and had a four year Western Hockey League career with Lethbridge and Vancouver.
