The Manitoba Bisons volleyball teams play first matches at home in 2014 when they host the Mount Royal Cougars during a weekend series on January 17-18 at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (U of Manitoba campus). On Friday night, the women's match will be at 6 p.m. CT and the men's is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT while on Saturday, matches starts at 5 p.m. for women and 7 p.m. for men.
In the conference season, the #8 Bison women's volleyball team (8-6) started the New Year with road sweep at Calgary on Jan. 10-11 weekend and sits in fifth in conference standing. Mount Royal women's volleyball team sports a 5-9 record for eighth place tie while they lost twice at #5 Trinity Western last weekend.
In Canada West stats, the Bisons are fourth in hitting percentage at .193, seventh in opponents hitting percentage at .170, second in assists at 12.15 per set, second in conference kills at 12.94, seventh in blocks at 2.13 per game, eighth in service aces at 1.45 and first in conference digs at 15.79. Individually, Rachel Cockrell is fifth and Taylor Pischke is seventh in conference kills at 3.83 per set and 3.51. Brittany Habing is first in conference assists at 10.87 while Caleigh Dobie is second in Canada West digs at 3.85 per set. Cockrell is fourth (4.42 per set) and Pischke is eighth (3.90) in conference points.
The Bison men's volleyball team (6-8) stays in the CIS Top 10 at the ninth spot and split on the road in Calgary on Jan. 10-11 weekend. Mount Royal men's volleyball team (6-8) is tied with Manitoba in seventh in Canada West standings and lost at Trinity Western last weekend.
In Canada West stats, the Bisons men are 11th in hitting percentage at .210, sixth in opponents hitting percentage at .242, tenth in assists at 11.07 per set, eighth in conference kills at 11.80, tenth in blocks at 1.92 per game, seventh in service aces at 1.08 and 12th in conference digs at 8.85. Individually, Kenny Rooney is seventh in hitting percentage at .377. Devren Dear is seventh in conference kills at 3.51 per set. Luke Herr is second at 10.11 per set in conference assists and eighth in service aces at 0.32 per set. Rooney is ninth in Canada West blocks at 1.03 per set while Dear is seventh in conference points at 4.00 per set.Â
