Box Score The #8 University of Manitoba women's volleyball team swept the weekend by beating the Mount Royal Cougars 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-20) on Saturday, January, 18 at Investors Group Athletic Centre. After winning a grueling, long match against the Cougars the night before, which went to 36-34 in the final set, the Bisons smoothly took this game.

"Well it wasn't easy. The key was that first set because they could have got away from us," said Bisons head coach Ken Bentley.

The first was full of long rallies and low dives as both sides were working hard to return the ball. Mount Royal leftside Fallon Middlemiss led the set for digs with nine, followed by Manitoba's libero Caleigh Dobie with six. The Cougars held the lead until Jordana Milne tied it up at 13-13 with a strong kill. They were point for point until Taylor Pischke threw down an attack to put the score at 17-16. From there the momentum swung in the Manitoba's direction as they took the set 25-18.

The Bisons pulled in front early in the second and stayed there throughout. Manitoba leftside Crystal Mulder sealed the set with two serves in a row that the Cougars couldn't return. The third set was similar with the Bisons in the lead from start to finish.

"I though we passed really well and we just created a lot of opportunities to score," said Bentley.

Manitoba leftside Taylor Pischke got a game-high of 15 kills. Her teammate Rachel Cockrell had 11. From the Cougars Carolyn O'Dwyer led with 12 kills and Kylie Willis followed with six.

The Bisons record is now 10-6 while the Cougars have dropped to 5-11.

Manitoba will travel to Regina next weekend for a two-game series against the Regina Cougars January 24 and 25.
