Bison men’s hockey team plays second home weekend series in the second half of 2013-14 season against Regina on Jan. 31-Feb. 1

Manitoba in fourth is one point ahead of Regina with 9-10-3 conference record

The Manitoba Bisons men's hockey team (9-10-3) plays their second home weekend series in the second half of 2013-14 season against the Regina Cougars (9-11-2). The series starts on Friday, January 31 at 7 p.m. CT and then on Saturday, February 1 at a special time of 1 p.m. CT.

The Bisons are looking to split the season series as they were swept in Regina earlier this season on the road (L 2-1 on Nov. 8/13 and L 7-4 on Nov. 9/13). Manitoba has a 5-4-1 record so far this season at home and has won four straight games at Wayne Fleming Arena (weekend sweep vs. Mt Royal on Jan. 10-11; weekend sweep vs. Lethbridge on Nov. 15-16)

Manitoba now sits in fourth spot with 20 points but only one point ahead of fifth place Regina while Mount Royal is two points back in sixth. The Bisons are also only four points back of third place Saskatchewan with six conference regular season games left this season.

In the second half so far, the Herd gained one point in a shootout loss during the two game weekend series at Saskatchewan on January 3-4 then swept Mount Royal at home and gained a point against #1 Calgary on the road in a road weekend series before a conference bye on Jan. 17-18 weekend.

In Canada West 2013-14 scoring, third year forward Aaron Lewadniuk (11 goals, 14 assists) leads the team and sixth in Canada West scoring with 25 points. Second year forward Jesse Paradis (8g, 15a) is tied for seventh in conference and second on team with 23 points while fifth year Ian Duval (10g, 12a) is tied for 11th in conference scoring. Lewadniuk is tied for fourth in conference goals with 11 while tied for tenth in Canada West with 14 assists. Paradis is tied for sixth with 15 assists, Duval tied for eighth with ten goals and tied for ninth with three power play goals, Fifth year forward Luke Cain is tied for seventh with two game-winning conference goals.  

Jordan DePape (4g, 11a) is seventh in Canada West rookie scoring with 15 points while rookie defenceman Luke Paulsen (3g, 6a) is tied for 14th in Canada West defenceman scoring with nine points. Goalie Joe Caligiuri is ninth in Canada West with 3.29 Goals Against Average, eighth in Save Pct. at .896, tied for fourth with two shutouts and tied for sixth with eight wins.
