University of Saskatchewan alternate captain Andrew Bailey tallied two second period goals to give the Huskies a 3-2 victory over the visiting University of Manitoba Bisons men's hockey team on Saturday, Jan. 4 afternoon in Saskatoon's Credit Union Centre.

Down 2-1 halfway through the second period and on the penalty kill, Andrew Bailey scooped up the puck in the neutral zone and tied the game at two at 12:55. It was Saskatchewan's second shorthanded goal of the game. The 2010-11 Canada West all-star added his second goal just four minutes later to restore the Huskies' lead.

With the win Saskatchewan improves to 10-7-1 after the weekend sweep. Manitoba drops to 7-9-2. A night earlier, the Huskies won 5-4 in a shootout.

Manitoba opened the scoring at 10:02 in the first period on the power play after a scramble in front of the net. Huskies netminder Ryan Holfeld had lost his stick in a scramble and Taylor Dickin's shot slid by.

Huskie rookie Josh Roach broke up a pass in the neutral zone to speed away on a partial breakaway. His quick wrist shot zipped by
Joe Caligiuri to notch the game at one at 4:29 in the second period.

As Jon Gaudet stepped out of the penalty box, Manitoba had a quick rush up the ice. A tic-tac-toe play sent the back to Gaudet and into the net to give the BIsons a 2-1 lead at 11:08 in the second period.

Holfeld made 27 saves in the win for Saskatchewan, while Caligiuri stopped 29 at the other end of the ice for Manitoba.

The Huskies travel to Edmonton to meet bitter rival the Alberta Golden Bears next weekend, while Manitoba returns home to host the Mount Royal Cougars on Fri., Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. CT and Sat., Jan. 11 at 1 p.m. CT.
