The Manitoba Bisons seek their first road win of the 2014 campaign when they travel to play at the Regina Rams on Saturday, October 25 with kickoff at 3 p.m. CT at Mosaic Stadium at Taylor Field. The game will be shown on live webcast at canadwest.tv website plus live radio on 101.5 UMFM (umfm.com).
This is the second meeting of the season between the two football rivals as the Herd won 42-18 at home to start the 2014 home schedule on September 12. In the earlier win against Regina, Manitoba were led by QB Jordan Yantz who went 12-25 for 218 passing yards and 73 rushing touchdowns with two pass TDs and two rush TDs. Along with Yantz, RB Kienan LaFrance had two touchdowns and 63 rushing yards while Alex Vitt had 105 receiving yards and Nic Demski added one touchdown. Tremaine Apperley had 8.5 tackles and the team had four sacks.
It has been a tale of two different teams as the Bisons have not won so far on the road in 2014 (Sept. 5: L 44-24 at Saskatchewan; Sept. 26: L 42-41 at Calgary; Oct. 4: L 38-31 at Alberta). While the Herd have won all three games at home (Sept. 12: W 42-18 vs. Regina; Sept. 20: W 20-10 vs. UBC; Oct. 17: W 41-8 vs. Sask.).
In the conference standings, Manitoba is in fourth spot (four make the playoffs) with a 3-3 record while Regina is last in sixth at 1-5. The lone win for the Rams was at home against UBC by a 33-23 result (Sept. 5) and five lost five consecutive conference games heading into the weekend action.
The last win by Manitoba at Regina in football action dates back to the perfect 2007 Vanier Cup Championship season (Sept. 1/07: W 36-13) – five game conference losing streak. Last season, the two teams met once with Manitoba winning at home in regular season by a 34-15 score (Sept. 28/13). Overall, head coach Brian Dobie has a 15-11 regular season record during the 16 seasons Regina has played in Canada West and Manitoba hold a 5-7 away record against the Rams in the last 16 years.Â
