Box Score WINNIPEG - On the afternoon of Friday November 14, 2014, the Manitoba Bisons beat the Calgary Dinos 4-1 in men's hockey at the Wayne Fleming Arena.
With the victory Manitoba improves it's record to 6-7-0, while Calgary's drops to 9-4-0. Both team's goalies were sharp in the first period keeping it a 0-0 game after 20. Dinos' goalie Kris Lazaruk made 10 saves while Bisons' goalie Devin Dubyk made nine. The home team made it through the first period without taking a penalty while the visiting team took two penalties but successfully killed them.
Nearly five minuets into the second period Manitoba took two penalties back to back, but were able to kill off Calgary's five on three power play. The home team opened the scoring when rookie defenseman Channing Bresciani beat Lazaruk on a three on two rush. Calgary took two penalties at the same time at the halfway point of the period resulting on a five on three power play for the Bisons. Fourth year forward scored the second goal for Manitoba on the power play. The Dinos took another penalty giving the Bisons another two-man advantage. Jesse Paradis scored seven and a half minuets into the third period to increase the Herd's lead to 4-0. The Visiting team finally broke Dubyk's shutout when second year forward Ryan Harrison scored with about eight minuets left in the game.
The power play had a big role in this game. Manitoba was 2/7 on the power play while Calgary was 0/3.
"The five on three kill in the second period was huge for us," said Bisons head coach
Mike Sirant, "and then our power play took the cue from that and we took advantage of our opportunities and scored some really nice power play goals."
This game was the first of a two game series. The teams will play again tomorrow night at Wayne Fleming Arena at 6 pm CST.
