Manitoba split road weekend series at Manitoba

Box Score

BRANDON – After losing to Manitoba Friday night, the host #2 Brandon Bobcats battled back to even the weekend series thanks to a 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-14, 27-25) women's volleyball win over the Manitoba Bisons, defending CIS WVB champs on Saturday, Nov. 15.

The two teams exchanged points early in the match, the biggest lead in the first set being two points before Brandon rattled off five-straight points to close out the set 25-20.

The second set was much the same until Manitoba went on a 7-0 run to lead 20-13, a lead the Bisons would not relinquish taking the set. The third was all BU, but both teams traded blows late in the fourth, forcing extra points before Shanlee McLennan put it away with a kill, giving Brandon the set 27-25.

McLennan finished the contest with a team-high 14 kills, finishing one dig shy of a double-double with nine. Nikki Majewski and Vaovai Aiono both recorded double-doubles however, with Majewski putting up 13 kills and 14 digs while Aiono had 11 kills and 15 digs.

The Bisons were led by Rachel Cockrell for the second-straight night, although she wasn't effective as Friday recording 17 kills and 14 errors.  Kalena Schulz had 10 kills for Manitoba.

The win improves Brandon's record to 7-3 while Manitoba falls two games below .500 at 5-7.

Up next for the Bobcats is a road trip to Trinity Western next weekend while the Bisons will welcome the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.
