Manitoba completes 2013-14 Canada West regular season with 6-16 mark

It was only fitting that a pair of fifth year players who were playing their final home games would play a big role on this night. Wesmen fifth year players Andrew Cunningham and Steven Wesley played a big role in leading the University of Winnipeg Wesmen men's basketball team to a regular season ending 75-66 victory over the Manitoba Bisons on Friday, Feb. 14 evening.

Wesley scored a team high 18 points while Cunningham scored 13 points while dishing out 12 assists.

Winnipeg with the win finishes their regular season schedule with a record of 14-8. The Wesmen finish fourth in the Prairie Division and will travel to Victoria for the opening round of the playoffs starting next Friday night. Manitoba completes their regular season with a record of 6-16.

Kurtis Sansregret had a strong game for Winnipeg finishing with 12 points and two steals. Ryan Oirbans led the Wesmen in rebounding with eight.

Fifth year forward Dan Penner led Manitoba with a double-double consisting of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Mike Holloway scored 12 points and dished out four assists.

Manitoba took control of the contest in the early stages leading 23-16 after the opening quarter.
The Wesmen found their game in the second quarter outscoring the Bisons 22-7 to take a 38-30 lead into the halftime break.

Winnipeg connected on 16-of-31 (52%) from the field in the opening half.

The hot shooting Wesmen extended their lead ion the third quarter, outscoring Manitoba 24-18 to carry a 62-48 lead into the final quarter. Winnipeg was able to hold off Manitoba in the final frame and went away with a 75-66 regular season ending victory on home court.
