Bison men’s hockey team play #4 Calgary in 2014 Canada West Semi Final best-of-three series on the road from Feb. 28-March 2

Manitoba won conference quarterfinal series 2-1 to advance to semi

The Manitoba Bisons men's hockey team defeated Mount Royal Cougars 2-1 in the best-of-three quarterfinal series at home on Feb. 21-23 and now advances to the 2014 Canada West Semi Final best-of-three playoff series against the #4 Calgary Dinos on the February 28- March 2 weekend.

The best-of-three playoff semi-final series will be played at Calgary (Father David Bauer Arena) and starts on Friday, February 28 with puck drop at 8 p.m. CT for game one. Game two will be on Saturday, March 1 at 7 p.m. CT and, if necessary, game three scheduled for Sunday, March 2 at 7 p.m. CT.

Earlier this regular season, Manitoba played Calgary four times and has a 0-2-2 record against the Dinos (At home: OTL 4-3 on Oct. 25/13 and L 5-3 on Oct. 26/13; on the road: L 5-4 on Jan. 17/14 and OTL 4-3 [2 OT]). In the second half of this regular season, the Herd had a 5-4-3 record and secured points on the road in four of their last six contests.

In Canada West playoff history between the two teams, Calgary leads 4-1 and Manitoba would look to avenge the stinging post-season series loss during the 2012 playoffs. The Dinos defeated the Bisons 2-0 in the best-of-three semi-final series at Manitoba after the Herd led the 2011-12 regular season standings.

Last season in the conference playoffs, the Bisons swept Regina 2-0 at home in the quarterfinal best-of-three series and then lost 2-1 in semi-final best-of-three series at Saskatchewan. Manitoba has lost the last three seasons in the semi-final playoff round.

In the 2014 playoff series, forwards Taylor Dickin (two goals, two assists) and Ian Duval (2g, 2a) led the team with four points in the three game series. Forwards Jordan DePape (1g, 2a in only two games), Brendan Rowinski (1g, 2a) and Aaron Lewdniuk (0g, 3a) plus defenceman Darren Bestland (1g, 2a) all had three points. Goalie Joe Caligiuri played all three games and recorded one shutout and leads the conference in playoffs Goals Against Average at 1.47 and .951 Save Pct.
