University of Manitoba Matt Dunstone selected as Canada West Male Third Star of the Week for the week ending March 23/14

Manitoba captured the 2014 CIS Championship and Dunstone was skip on the team

The University of Manitoba won the 2013-14 CIS/CCA men's curling championship with a 7-5 extra end win over the University of Alberta during the Match 19-23 national event and were rewarded with a conference star selection for the week ending March 23, 2014.

University of Manitoba first-year curling skip Matt Dunstone, a 2013 Canadian Junior men's champion, led his team to a 2014 CIS/CCA Curling Championship title at the Callie Curling Club in Regina on Sunday, March 23 and was selected as the Canada West Male Third Star of the Week.

After advancing to the final with a 6-1 record in round-robin play following five consecutive victories, Manitoba faced fellow 2012 Canadian champion Brendan Bottcher and the University of Alberta in the gold medal final, where they prevailed 7-5 in a back-and-forth game that went to extra ends. A steal of two points in the 11th end secured the victory.

The win for Manitoba also earns them a ticket to Granada, Spain to represent Canada at the Winter Universiade (World University Games) in 2015.

Curling Notes: The championship university team consisted of skip Matt Dunstone, third Jim Coleman, second Daniel Grant, lead Chris Gallant, alternate Jordan Smith and coach Scott Grant. The University of Manitoba also won the CIS/CCA women's curling championship in the 2012-13 season.
