Bison volleyball teams host #1 Alberta in important weekend series on January 16-17 at Investors Group Athletic Centre

Bison women’s in seventh place with 8-8 record while Bison men’s tied for sixth at 9-7

The Manitoba Bisons volleyball teams continue their 2014-15 conference regular season with first home matches of the second half as they both host #1 Alberta in a weekend series on January 16-17 at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (U of Manitoba campus). On Friday night, the women's match will be at 6 p.m. CT and the men's is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT while on Saturday, matches starts at 5 p.m. for women and 7 p.m. for men.

The defending CIS champion Bison women's volleyball team (8-8) is in seventh place spot while Alberta Pandas are number one ranked and in second place in Canada West with a 13-3 mark. The Top 7 teams in the conference will qualify for the playoffs and Manitoba has eight matches left (counting this weekend).

In Canada West stats, the Bisons are fifth in hitting percentage at .180, ninth in assists at 10.11 per set, ninth in conference kills at 10.95, seventh in blocks at 2.12 per set, fourth in service aces at 1.98 and seventh in conference digs at 13.73. Individually, Rachel Cockrell is first in kills per set at 4.82 and first with 318 kills while Brittany Habing is seventh in assists per set at 8.74 while Caleigh Dobie is third at 3.83. Sarah Klassen is tenth at 1.09 blocks per set; Jordana Milne is tenth at .247 hitting percentage and Cockrell is first with 367.5 conference points.

The Bison men's volleyball team (9-7) is in a tie for sixth place while Alberta Golden Bears are number one in CIS with a 15-1 record and first in Canada West. The Top 7 makes the playoffs.

In conference stats, the Bison men's team is seventh in hitting percentage at .245, eighth in assists at 11.37 per set, eighth in conference kills at 12.17, sixth in blocks at 2.45 per set, eighth in service aces at 1.17 and seventh in conference digs at 9.51. Individually, Devren Dear is fifth in kills per set at 3.91 and fifth with 223 kills. Luke Herr is third in Canada West with 10.56 assists per set plus he is tied for eighth with 0.35 service aces per set. Kenny Rooney is second in blocks per set at 1.31 while Alex Strachan sits fifth in conference digs per set at 2.17.
