#9 Bison women's hockey winning streak to six games with 4-3 OT win at Saskatchewan

Alanna Sharman with game-winner in overtime

Box Score

SASKATOON - Bison rookie Alanna Sharman tallied just 1:05 into overtime to lift the #9 University of Manitoba Bisons 4-3 over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in women's hockey on Saturday, January 24 night in Saskatoon's Rutherford Rink.

Sharman, who sits second in the Canada West women's hockey scoring race, scored the game-winner by collecting a Jerrica Waltz rebound in the slot.

With the weekend sweep, Manitoba improves to 16-5-1 and Saskatchewan drops to 11-8-3. A night earlier, Manitoba won 5-2.

Entering the weekend, each team needed wins to help stay in the tight playoff race. Just five points separated first through fourth and eight from fifth to first.

After Manitoba's Cassandra Taylor opened the scoring at 6:10 on a deflection into the net, two goals by Huskie-NCAA transfer Lauren Zary put Saskatchewan ahead at 2-1. Zary scored her first at 9:52 in the first period on a partial breakaway after forcing a turnover, scoring backhand. She scored her second just three minutes later on a quick shot from the right faceoff circle at 12:47.

The Bisons' broke out to a lead in the third period scoring quickly into the frame to tie the game. Alana Serhan scored just 1:24 into the period on a rebound that was tapped behind Waltz. Maggie Litchfield-Medd gave Manitoba the lead at 10:05 with a one-timer from the point beating Waltz into the top of the net.

Huskie Marley Ervine evened the score at 15:23 beating Manitoba netminder Rachel Dyck short side from the faceoff to force the extra period.

Dyck made 20 saves in the win for the Bisons, while Waltz stopped 29 in the loss in her first CIS start.
