Bisons finish conference season in fifth spot with 15-13-0 record

Box Score

Calgary, AB – In the final game of the 2014-15 regular season, the Mount Royal Cougars lost a hard fought battle to the Manitoba Bisons 4-3 in men's hockey at Flames Community Arenas on Friday, January 30.

Brett Dudar opened the scoring for the Bisons at the 10:00 minute mark on an unassisted goal. The Cougars then took the game to the Bisons unleashing 12 shots in the first period. Near the end of the period, Dalyn Flette fired the puck over the glass resulting in a Bisons power play in which Jesse Paradis scored with eight seconds to play to lead 2-0 going into the break.

Matt Brown evened up the game 7:04 into the second period on an assist from rookie standout Mackenzie Johnston. Johnston wasn't done there as he added the game-tying goal for Mount Royal. Johnston let go a seeing eye shot from the point that snuck by Dubyk. The Cougars and Bisons were square 2-2 heading into the third.

The score remained tied until Aaron Lewadniuk scored just as their power play expired to give Manitoba the lead with just over three minutes to play. Josh Elmes added an empty net goal for Manitoba to seal the victory. Tanner Olstadscored one final goal for the Cougars but it was too little too late.

The Cougars finish the Canada West regular season in third place with a 17-10-1 record. They will host the sixth place Saskatchewan Huskies on Friday Feb. 21 at Flames Community Arenas.

The Bisons will finish 15-13-0 and finish fifth in the conference standings. On Feb. 21 they will head out to Vancouver to play the UBC Thunderbirds in Canada West quarter final best-of-three series.
