Manitoba Bison Earn 5-3 victory over Lethbridge in Men's Hockey

Top line shines as Bison outwork Lethbridge

Box Score WINNIPEG - The Bison men's hockey team sent a full house home from Wayne Fleming Arena with a smile on their faces on Friday, January 9, with a come from behind 5-3 win over Lethbridge Pronghorns.

Though the Bison eventually pulled out a win, Lethbridge didn't make things easy for them. The Pronghorns got off to a quick start, with third year defenseman David McMullen rifling a shot past goaltender Deven Dubyk just 41 seconds into the game, and by the end of the third they led 3-1 thanks to goals from Greg Trichilo and Brock Hirsche.

Despite falling behind early, and staying behind for much of the game, the Bison rallied to claim the victory, largely on the shoulders of a solid performance from their top line. Taylor Dickin, Jesse Paradis, and Jordan DePape all scored, and Chad Robinson and Lee Christensen also tallied for the home side.

The Pronghorns, who currently sit in 8th place in the conference, have beaten Manitoba twice already this year, and seemed poised to do so again, thanks to a standout performance from goaltender Damien Ketlo. Ketlo faced 36 shots, while his team managed just 11 on Dubyk, most of which came early in the game.

A parade to the penalty box by Lethbridge finally cost them when, on the last power play of the game, forward Chad Robinson finished off a pretty passing play that left him with most of the net to shoot at and all day to do it.

As pretty as that goal was, the highlight of the night came courtesy DePape, Dickin and Paradis. Paradis capped off a slick passing play with some quick hands in tight, faking out Ketlo with a nice move to his backhand before tucking in a forehand from almost below the goal line.

The Bison never seemed out of control after the first period, despite being down for much of the game. They scored just 25 seconds into the second frame, and buried three goals in the third. The Pronghorns, meanwhile, struggled to muster offence after the first period. Still, the 3-2 lead held for Lethbridge until well into the third, making for some tense moments for the home crowd.

Lethbridge and Manitoba will face off again on Saturday in a matinee game at Wayne Fleming arena. The puck drops at 1 PM local time.
