Ken Rooney, Kevin Falconer and Adam DeJonckheere selected as Bison men’s volleyball team co-captains for 2015-16 season

Rooney and Falconer are captains for third time while DeJonckheere earns second ‘C’

The Bison men's volleyball team announces three co-captains for the 2015-16 Canada West conference season.

Middle hitter Ken Rooney, left side hitter Kevin Falconer and left side hitter Adam DeJonckheere are the captains for the Bison men's volleyball team. Rooney and Falconer are three-time captains as they wore the 'C' the last two seasons while DeJonckheere (pronounced: De-unk-er) is a second-time captain with Manitoba.

Bison men's volleyball head coach Garth Pischke, in his 34th season at the helm, said, "These three captains were part of the leadership group last year and all are leaders on and off the court."

Rooney, 21 , enters his fourth year with the Bisons after being selected as 2014-15 CIS men's volleyball Second Team All-Canadian and 2014-15 Canada West men's volleyball First Team All-Star. In the 2014-15 season with the Bisons, the Winnipeg native was second in CIS and Canada West in total blocks at 1.29 per set (overall total was 121) plus finished 18th in conference points (tied for 21st in CIS) at 291.0 points while 24th in Canada West kills (tied for 31st in CIS) at 205. The 6'8", 220 lbs. player was 2012-13 Canada West Rookie of the Year plus CIS All-Rookie Team.

Falconer, 21, begins his fourth season with the Herd. The Winnipeg native was fourth on the team with 141 kills and fifth with nine service aces in his third season. In addition, the 6'3", 210 lbs. player was fifth on the squad with 88 digs, third with 51overall blocks and fourth on the team with 179.5 points while playing in 81 conference regular season sets.

DeJonckheere, 19 (turns 20 in Dec. 2015), starts his third season with Manitoba. In his second year at Manitoba, he was 12th in Canada West in kills at 282 and 12th in conference points with 325.5. The Winnipeg native was tied for second on the team with 15 service aces, second with 163 digs and fourth with 47 total blocks while playing in 92 of 96 conference regular season sets during his sophomore season. The 6'3", 165 lbs. player was selected to the 2013-14 CIS and Canada West Men's Volleyball All-Rookie Team. 

Bison Notes: The 2015-16 conference season opens for the Bisons at home versus the Saskatchewan Huskies on October 16-17 weekend with game times both nights at 6 p.m. CT held at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (U of Manitoba campus).
