Basi is a first time Bison captain while Anders is captain for second consecutive season

The Bison men's basketball team announces two co-captains for the 2015-16 Canada West conference season.

Forward Wyatt Anders and Guard Amarjit (AJ) Basi are the captains for the Bison men's basketball team. Anders is a second-time captain with Manitoba while Basi dons the 'C' for the first time with the BIsons.

Bison men's basketball head coach Kirby Schepp, in his seventh season at the helm, said, "Wyatt is a returning captain and one of the best leaders in my time here at Manitoba. It is great to have him back and be a big part on and off the court. AJ was a leading scorer last year and has matured as a player and person in his fourth year at U of M. He is ready to take the next step as one of the next elite players in Canada West."

Anders, 24, enters his fifth and final year with the Bisons and was also a team captain last season. In the 2014-15 season, the Winnipeg native was fifth in the conference rebounding at 9.1 per game and tied for fifth in Canada West defensive rebounds per game at 6.5. While starting in 19 of 20 conference games, the 6'7" forward was fifth in team scoring at 10.0 points per game and second on the squad in field goal shooting at 45.5% (65-143).

Basi, 22, starts his fourth season at Manitoba after a strong year in 2014-15. In his third season, the Winnipeg native was team leader and 12th in Canada Wests coring with a 16.3 points per game average while playing in all 20 conference games (started six). Last season, the 5'11" guard was second on the Bisons in minutes played at 29.5, fourth on team in assists per game at 1.7 and fourth on team in field goal shooting at 40.8% (119-292).
