The Bison basketball teams continue the first half of the 2015-16 conference season by hosting Alberta on Friday, November 20 and then Saturday, November 21 at the Investors Group Athletic Centre (U of Manitoba campus). On Friday, the women's game will be at 6 p.m. CT and the men's game is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT while on Saturday, women's start at 4 p.m. CT and men's at 6:30 p.m. CT as the NBA All-Star Tour stop happens on Saturday.
The Bison men's basketball team (2-2) has had two strong wins over CIS Top 10 teams (Saskatchewan on road and Calgary at home) so far this season and last two contests have gone into overtime. Alberta is also with a 2-2 record.
In this conference men's basketball season, the Bisons are fifth in scoring offence at 86.0 points per game and 16th in scoring defence at 86.3 points per game. In Canada West assists per game, Manitoba is first with 19.8 per game and in rebounds per game; Manitoba is tied for fifth in conference at 43.3. In addition, the Herd is tied for fourth with 8.8 steals per game. Individually, co-captain Wyatt Anders leads the conference with 14.5 rebounds per game. Co-captain A.J. Basi is fifth in Canada West and leads the team in scoring with 22.5 points per game while Basi first with 4.0 made 3 pointers per game. Justus Alleyn is third and Keith Omoerah is seventh in conference with 5.5 and 4.5 assists per game.
The Bison women's basketball team (0-4) seeks their first wins of the conference season against #10 Alberta (4-0). Manitoba scored most points so far last week with 71.
In this conference women's basketball season, the Bisons are 16th in scoring offence at 53.5 points per game and 17th in scoring defence at 87.8 points per game. In Canada West 3 point field goals percentage, the Bisons are fourth at 33.3%; tied for sixth in conference assists per game with 13.3 and sixth in conference steals per game at 9.8.
Individually, captain Jenilyn Monton is tied for third with 4.8 assists per game and tied for ninth with 2.3 steals per game. Rookie Nicole Konieczny leads the team in scoring with 9.5 points per game plus minutes played at 27.3 per game.
