Box Score

SASKATOON – University of Manitoba women's hockey forward Karissa Kirkup scored twice on the power-play to lead the Bisons to a 3-1 victory over the No. 8 University of Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday, November 21 at Rutherford Rink.

Kirkup scored her first goal at 11:46 of the first period and followed that up just over five minutes later with a marker at 16:54.

Manitoba improves to 8-5-0-1 with the win to move into a tie for top spot in the conference, while the Huskies drop to 5-4-3-2 with the loss.

The Huskies opened the scoring just 2:23 into the game. Julia Flinton intercepted a Mantioba clearing pass and went hard to the net before roofing a backhand shot over the glove of Bison goaltender Rachel Dyck.

Saskatchewan nearly doubled its lead minutes later when Brooklyn Haubrich was sent in alone on a breakaway. Dyck was able to turn aside Haubrich's backhand attempt to keep the deficit at one.

Kirkup would get her first power-play goal after a quick passing play set up by Alana Serhan and Venia Hovi. Hovi found Kirkup on the left side of the ice where she would send a shot over the glove of Cassidy Hendricks to square things up.

Kirkup would make it back-to-back goals just over five minutes later. The Bisons pressured with the man advantage and Kirkup took advantage of a scramble in front, scooping up the puck and firing a shot to the top corner, blocker side on Hendricks.

After a rush of goals in the first both teams settled into a defensive shell for the next 40 minutes. Both sides had chances, but both Dyck and Hendricks came up big when needed to keep the one-goal game intact.

Dyck finished the night with 30 saves, while Hednricks made 19 for the Huskies.

The Huskies travel to Calgary to visit the Mount Royal Cougars, while the Bisons return home to host the Regina Cougars on November 27-28 weekend.
