In women's basketball, Bisons lose at #2 Saskatchewan during season opener weekend

Manitoba has home opener on Nov. 13-14 weekend at Calgary

Box Score
The No. 2 ranked University of Saskatchewan Huskies downed the visiting University of Manitoba Bisons 99-57 on Saturday, November 7 night at the PAC, completing the two game sweep on the opening weekend of the 2015-16 Canada West women's basketball season.

Saskatchewan starts 2-0 after defeating the 0-2 Bisons 79-38 on Friday night.

After falling behind big in last night's matchup, the Bisons were much tougher on Saturday night. Saskatchewan took a 23-15 lead after the first quarter. The 15 points were more than the Bisons scored in the first half on Friday.

In the second the Huskies started to pull away from the young Manitoba squad outscoring them 31-16 in the second quarter to lead by 13 at halftime.

Unlike on Friday night where the Huskies pulled away with ease, the Bisons continued to stay close with the second ranked team in the country. Each time Saskatchewan would extend the lead, Manitoba was quick to cut it back to 13. Late in the third the Huskies would go on a scoring run and continued it into the fourth to really blow the game open.

Laura Dally scored a team-high 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Dally added four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Desarae Hogberg chipped in with 16 points, while Sascha Lichtenwald added 13 points off the bench.

Nicole Konieczny scored a team-high 13 points for the Bisons. Jenilyn Monton added 10 points and four assists for Maniotba.

The Huskies travel to Victoria for a weekend series with the Victoria Vikes. Manitoba will host the Calgary Dinos at home next weekend (Nov. 13-14).
