At the completion of the 2014-15 Canada West conference men's hockey regular season, the Manitoba Bisons finished fifth in the Canada West standings with a 15-13-0 record and now will travel on the road to play the fourth place UBC Thunderbirds (13-10-5) in the Canada West Quarter Final best-of-three playoff series on the February 19-21 weekend.
The best-of-three playoff series commences on Thursday, February 19 with a start time of 9 p.m. CT for game one then game two on Friday, February 20 at 9 p.m. CT and, if necessary, game three will be play on Saturday, February 21 at 9 p.m. CT. All playoff contests will be played at Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre at UBC.
During this season, Manitoba went 3-1 against UBC as they swept the Thunderbirds on the road (W 2-1 on Nov. 21/14; W 3-1 on Nov. 22/14) and split at home (W 3-1 on Jan. 3/15; L 8-6 on Jan. 4/15). Since the beginning of the second half of the 2014-15 season, the Bisons have gone 7-3 and won two of those last four games on the road.
In 2013-14, the Bisons hosted Mount Royal in a playoff series and won the series two games to one before losing in conference semi-final to Calgary in three games. The Herd last played UBC in a conference playoff series in the 2007-08 season and the Bisons swept UBC in two games at home in the quarter-final.
For the Bisons in Canada West Top 10 scoring, forward Jordan DePape finished tied for sixth with 27 points (13 goals, 14 assists) while forward Aaron Lewadniuk (12g, 13a) was tied for ninth at 25 points. Forward Taylor Dickin (8g, 16a) was tied for 11th at 24 points. In the nets, Bison netminder Deven Dubyk has played in 21 conference regular season games and was sixth in Save Percentage at .919, eighth in Goals Against Average at 2.52, tied for second with two shutouts and tied for second in conference win with 11.
