The #9 and third place Manitoba Bisons continue their playoff season in Canada West conference women's hockey as they now travel to the #7 and second place UBC Thunderbirds (17-1-6-4) to play in the Canada West Semi-Final best-of-three playoff series on the February 27-March 1 weekend.
The best-of-three playoff series commences on Friday, February 27 with a start time of 9 p.m. CT for game one then game two on Saturday, February 28 at 5 p.m. CT and, if necessary, game three will be play on Sunday, March 1 at 5 p.m. CT. All playoff contests will be played at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre (UBC campus) and shown on live webcast at canadwest.tv website.
During this season, Manitoba went 2-2 against UBC as they swept the T-Birds at home (W 2-1 [1st OT] on Nov. 21/14; W 3-1 on Nov. 22/14) and swept on the road (L 4-3 on Feb. 6/15 on Feb. 6/15; L 5-2 on Feb. 7/15). Since the beginning of the second half of the 2014-15 season, the Bisons went 6-3-2-1 in reg. season and won four of last six games away.
The last time both teams meet in the playoffs was in the 2012-13 season and UBC swept Manitoba at home by a 2-0 game margin (7-2 and 4-1 wins by Thunderbirds) in conference quarterfinal series. This is only the second time that both teams meet-up in post-season action since women's hockey started play in Canada West during the 1997-98 season.
Manitoba is looking to advance to a conference championship series for the first time since 2010-11 season, when they captured the Canada West championship. Bisons defeated Regina 2-1 in conference quarterfinal series at home on Feb. 20-22/15.
