Box Score In another five-setter the MacEwan University Griffins women's volleyball team defeated the University of Manitoba Bisons 3-2 (25-17, 25-20, 18-25, 19-25, 15-10) on Saturday, February 7 afternoon at City Center Gymnasium.
The Griffins sprinted out to a quick 7-1 lead to open the match. After a slow start Rachel Cockrell got rolling offensively with six kills to keep the Bisons close, but the Griffins were able to hold on for a 25-17 set win.
After trading points in the early stages of the second set, the Griffins went on a 15-6 run to build an eight point lead. Once again the Bisons rallied late, but the Griffins held on for the 25-20 second set victory.

The Bisons clawed back into the match with a 25-18 third set win as Cockrell recorded eight kills in the set. Setter Brittany Habing dished out 15 assists, many aimed in the sights of Cockrell.
A late 5-0 run for the Bisons pushed the match the distance as Cockrell continued to lead the way with another six kills. The Bisons took the fourth set 25-19.

Strong defence from both teams lead to a closely contested final set. A 7-2 run to close the match earned the Griffins the set by a score of 15-10. The Griffins continued to utilize a balanced attack as four hitters finished in double-digit kills.
Rebecca Martin led the balanced attack for the Griffins, finishing the match with 52 assists to earn player of the game honours. Habing also had a strong game with 46 assists, earning player of the game award for the Bisons.
In a post game ceremony graduating players Christina Campbell and Porsha Diggs were honoured.
The teams will meet again Sunday, February 8 at noon MT for their season finale.
