The #8 Manitoba Bisons (1-2) look to get back in the win column after two consecutive losses as the travel to play against the Alberta Golden Bears (2-1) on Friday, September 25 at 8 p.m. CT held at Foote Field.
Manitoba and Alberta play twice during the conference regular season in 2015 and will again meet in Winnipeg on Friday, October 23 in week seven.
The Bisons just finished the first part of the Canada West schedule that saw them play CIS Top 10 ranked teams in the first three weeks of the year. They defeated then #8 Saskatchewan on the road to start the 2015 campaign with a 34-28 road victory on Fri., Sept. 4 then lost 46-38 to then #2 Calgary in the home opener on Fri., Sept. 11 and also lost to then #10 UBC at home by a 51-48 result on Sat., Sept. 19.
Manitoba has made the CIS Top 10 all four weeks and sit at number eight this week while Alberta has not been ranked so far this season. The Bears won their first two games in 2015 (W 29-22 at Regina on Sept. 4; W 38-26 vs. Saskatchewan at home on Sept. 11) and lost last week (L 80-18 at Calgary on Sept. 17).
Last season, Manitoba played Alberta once and lost 38-31 on the road in week five, before making it to the Uteck Bowl (CIS semi-final) appearance. Manitoba last won in Alberta in the 2013 season. In the 2014 season, Manitoba went 4-4 in the regular season (third in Canada West) and was a conference champion after two playoff road wins while Alberta went 3-5 and was fifth in conference standings and did not qualify for the playoffs.
Over Brian Dobie's tenure with Manitoba (19 seasons), the Bisons have a 12-13-1 record against the Bears and 5-7-1 on the road during the conference regular season.
In Canada West individual stats, Bison QB Theo Deezar is first with 1,151 passing yards and eight passing touchdowns. Running back/kick returner Jamel Lyles is fifth in rushing yards at 297, third in kickoff yards at 241, fourth in punt return yards with 131 plus first in all-purpose yards with 763. Alex Vitt is fourth (315) and Jesse Walker is fifth (267) in receiving yards. Ryan Jones is fifth with 28 conference points while Lyles is second in TDs with four and sixth in scoring with 26 points. DJ Lalama is fifth in Canada West with 21.5 total tackles and tied for fourth with three tackles for losses while Evan Foster and David Onyemata are tied for fifth with 1.5 conference sacks.
