The Bison volleyball teams continue their 2015-16 conference regular season as they host the Trinity Western Spartans in a weekend series on January 22-23. On Friday night, the men's match will be at 6 p.m. CT and the women's is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT while on Saturday, matches starts at 3 p.m. for men and 4:30 p.m. for women.
The #3 Bison men's volleyball team (12-2) is in third place in Canada West standings and has won eight consecutive home matches so far this season. Manitoba is on a four game conference win streak and face the Spartans who have a 8-8 record and tied for sixth place in the 13 team conference standings with top seven making the playoffs.
In conference 2015-16 stats, the Bison men's team is second in hitting percentage at .315, second in assists at 12.51 per set, second in conference kills at 13.18, third in blocks at 2.48 per set, tenth in service aces at 0.94 and sixth in conference digs at 9.43. Individually, Devren Dear is fourth and Adam DeJonckheere is 12th in kills per set at 4.07 and 3.45 plus in conference points, DeJonckheere is 13th with 202.5 and Dear in 14th at 195.0. DeJonckheere is third and Dear is tied for seventh in Canada West in hitting percentage at .339 and .289. Luke Herr is second in Canada West with 10.86 assists per set. Josh Crellin is seventh and Ken Rooney is tied for ninth in blocks per set at 1.00 and 0.96.
The Bison women's volleyball team (2-12) is playing #2 Trinity Western as the Spartans hold a 15-1 record and tied for first in conference. The Bisons seek their second home match win of this season and are ten points out of a playoff spot.
In Canada West stats, the Bisons are 12th in hitting percentage at .109, 12th in assists at 9.02 per set, 12th in conference kills at 9.38, tenth in blocks at 1.65 per set, tenth in service aces at 1.56 and sixth in conference digs at 13.22. Individually, Sydney Booker is 11th and Sydney Purvis is 13th in assists per set with 6.97 and 6.41. Kalena Schulz is tied for 17th in service aces per set at 0.38. Caleigh Dobie is sixth in Canada West at 3.26 in digs per set.
Bison Notes: Bison volleyball teams will go on the road for the January 29-30 weekend at Thompson Rivers before a home-and-home against Winnipeg Wesmen on February 4-6 with the 25th annual Duckworth Challenge volleyball portion being played on Thursday, Feb. 4 at Winnipeg.
