Bison men’s hockey team announce Jordan DePape as team captain for the 2016-17 season

There will also be three alternate captains for the upcoming season

The Bison men's hockey team is heading into the third week of the 2016-17 conference season at home during the Oct. 28-29 weekend and pleased to announce the team captains for the 2016-17 season. Forward Jordan DePape will be the team captain while forward Brett Stovin plus defencemen Adam Henry and Lee Christensen will be the alternate captains for Manitoba this season.

Bison men's hockey head coach Mike Sirant, in his 21st season at Manitoba, said, "All four players serve in the captain position this season are excellent leaders. They are leaders who lead by example on the ice, in the classroom and in the community. They are honoured to represent the Bisons and are excited to uphold the standard of excellence set by previous Bison captains."

DePape, 24, is a captain for a third consecutive season (he was a co-captain last season and an alternate in 2014-15) playing in his fourth season with Manitoba. The 6'0", 195 lbs. forward was selected as a 2015-16 CIS Second Team All-Canadian (his first CIS All-Canadian selection) while named as a 2015-16 Canada West First Team All-Star. In the 2015-16 conference regular season, the Winnipeg native won the Canada West conference men's hockey scoring title with 41 points (19 goals and 22 assists) and became first Bison to accomplish this feat since Canada West and GPAC merged in 1985-86 while his 41 points ranked DePape fifth in U Sports men's hockey scoring.

Stovin, 21, wears the 'A' for the first time in his second season with the Bisons. In his first year, the 6'1", 195 lbs. forward was named to 2015-16 Canada West All-Rookie Team. He finished with 26 points (12g, 14a), good for a tie for 15th in Canada West scoring and tied for third best among rookie scoring. The Stony Mountain, MB native also tied for the second longest point streak in 2015-16 with an 11 game streak (started on Oct. 31/15 to Jan. 9/16) as he played in all 28 conference regular season games.

Henry, 21, dons the 'A' for the first time in his second season at Manitoba. In his rookie campaign, the 5'11', 2015 lbs. blueliner was named on U Sports and Canada West men's hockey All-Rookie Team after scoring 14 points (2g, 12a) while playing in all 28 conference regular season games in 2015-16. The Winnipeg native was 14th in defenceman conference scoring and third in rookie conference defensive scoring.

Christensen, 25, is a captain for second consecutive season in his fifth year with Bisons. The 6'1", 195 lbs. defenceman had another solid season in 2015-16 as he had seven points (2g, 5a) in 27 conference regular season games. The Winnipeg native has scored 16 points (5g, 11a) in 86 conference regular season games in his Bison career.
