The Bison men's basketball team is proud to announce two captains for the 2016-17 Canada West conference season. Guard Amarjit (AJ) Basi (pronounced: Um-er-jeet Bass-e) and guard Justus Alleyn (pronounced: Just-ice Al-lean) are the captains for the Bison men's basketball team for the upcoming season.
Basi is a captain for second consecutive season while Alleyn is captain for the first time with the Bisons.

Kirby Schepp, in his eighth season at the helm, said, "We are a very veteran group and all will be leaders at different points in the year. AJ had been with the program for five seasons and been a leader on and off the court. Justus competes every single play and his and AJ worth ethic are examples of we want to be and how to achieve our goals this season."
Basi, 23, starts his fifth and final season at Manitoba and was also a team captain last season. In his fourth season, the Winnipeg native was team leader and eighth in Canada West scoring with a 17.9 points per game average while starting and playing in all 20 conference games. Last season, the 5'11", 165 lbs. guard was first on the Bisons and second In Canada West in minutes played at 35.1, fifth on team in assists per game at 2.5, second on Bisons with 1.5 steals per game and second on team in 3-point field goal shooting at 37.1%.
Alleyn, 21, enters his fourth year with the Bisons after a strong year in 2015-16. Last season, the Winnipeg native was second on team scoring (16th in conference) at 15.6 points per game while starting and playing in all 20 conference games. The 6'0", 200 lbs. guard was also third on team with 2.9 assists per game, fourth with 3.7 rebounds per game, second with 0.5 blocks per game, third on Bisons (ninth in conference) with 33.0 minutes played per game and second on the squad (11th in Canada West) in 3-point field goal shooting at 40.0%.
