#7 Manitoba win 1-0 in 1st OT in women's hockey

Courtlyn Oswald scores game winner against Calgary. Same two teams play again tomorrow afternoon

Box Score Winnipeg, MB - On Friday, November 4, the #7 University of Manitoba Bison women's hockey team defeated the University of Calgary Dinos at the Wayne Fleming Arena 1-0 in first overtime,

With the home OT win, the Bisons are now (6-2-1-0), and the Dinos fall to (0-5-1-3) in conference play.

The only goal, and the game winner was scored by Bisons Courtlyn Oswald, as Alana Serhan made a perfect cross ice pass, as Oswald finally got it passed Dinos Kelsey Roberts. Both goalies played great games with Rachel Dyck completing the 11 save shutout, and Roberts kept her team in the game, stopping 29 shots.

Post-game Bisons head coach Jon Rempel talked about how it important it was to get back into the win column after two losses last weekend
"Any time you're going along on a strong clip, and then you kind of get your feet cut out from you, you have to regroup reset and refocus" said Rempel. "They did a good job of handling things and they probably feel they got the monkey off their back."

There was a lot of back and forth play in the first period, the Bisons got most of the chances though, as they outshot the Dinos 7-2 in the first frame, but no one was able to find the back of the net. The Bisons killed off a penalty taken by Erin Kucheravy mid-way through the period. Dino defenseman Merissa Dawson also took a penalty in the dying seconds of the period, which will start the Bisons off on the power-play to start the second period.
The second period featured a lot of the same, with both goalies keeping the scoreboard blank. This period was very even, but Roberts came up with numerous big saves to keep her team in the game, as the Bisons outshot the Dinos 10-6 in the period.

Dyck opened the third period with some incredible saves, and at 8:35 Dinos forward Rachel Paul landed herself in the penalty box, for a Bisons power play. The Bisons had some chances, but again Roberts shut the door with some key saves, to keep the game scoreless. With just over four minutes left in the period, Bisons Jordyn Zacharias had a breakaway chance, but rang it off the right goal post, leaving the game scoreless through regulation.

At 2:18 in the overtime period, Bisons forward Oswald scored the game-winner and her first of the 2016-17 season, on assist from Serhan.

The Bisons and the Dinos will square off at the Wayne Fleming Arena once again tomorrow, November 5 at 1 p.m. CT.
