Bisons look for road weekend split on Sat., Nov. 5

Box Score

CALGARY- The University of Calgary Dinos' Elgin Pearce scored two goals to tie the game and rally his men's hockey team to come from behind and defeat the University of Manitoba Bisons, 4-3, Friday, November 4 evening, at the Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary.

The Bisons opened the scoring early in the first period off of the stick of Jonah Wasylak. On a Dino clearing attempt, Channing Bresciani held the puck in at the blue line and fed Wasylak in the slot. Wasylak spun and fired a quick wrist shot over Dinos' goaltender Steven Stanford's pad and in.

Calgary wasted no time in the middle frame to tie the game at one-a-piece. Braiden Doucette chipped the puck in down low in the Bisons zone for Coda Gordon who immediately passed to Dinos leading goal scorer, Pearce, in which he put a one-timer low past Bison Byron Spriggs.

Manitoba wasn't going to let Calgary back into the game that easily, regaining its' lead midway through the period. Shaq Merasty sent a saucer pass from just outside the Dinos blue line to a breaking Justin Augert who put a snap shot on net that dribbled off of Stanford's glove and in.

Pearce once again tied the game for the Dinos mid-way through the third period. Dylan Walchuk stripped a Bison of the puck in their own zone where he and Pearce were all alone in front. Walchuk faked the shot, passed to Pearce who buried the puck.

The Dinos continued to find the back of the net late in the period to take their first lead of the game on the power play. Adam Kambeitz hit Doucette, who skated down from the point, with a high slot pass. Doucette fired a high wrist shot just over Spriggs and in for his first of the season, giving the Dinos a 3-2 lead.

Coda Gordon added an empty netter one minute later to solidify the Dinos lead.

The Bisons weren't giving up yet, with just over a minute to go in the game, Garrett Johnson passed the puck to a waiting Shawn Bowles who made no mistake putting the one-timer under Stanford's blocker and in to cut the Dinos lead to one.

It wouldn't be enough as the Dinos empty netter would be the game winner.

The two teams will face off again in a matinee game on Sat., Nov. 5. Puck is set to drop at 3 p.m. CT at the Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary.
