Box Score SASKATOON - In a match that extended to extra points in a deciding fifth set, the University of Manitoba Bisons took down the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 3-2 (22-25, 25-18, 25-13, 23-25, 16-14) in women's volleyball on Friday, Dec. 2 night at the PAC.
After dropping the opening set, the Bisons strong play in the second and third sets propelled them ahead 2-1 in the match. A late comeback in the fourth set by the Huskies forced a fifth game. Manitoba jumped out to a two-point lead in at 9-7 and never looked back, holding on for the 16-14 win.
The victory improves Manitoba's conference record to 3-6 on the season and stops a four match losing streak. The Huskies fall to 5-4 with the loss.
Kearley Abbott led the way for Manitoba with 18 kills in the match. Sarah Klassen chipped in with another 16 kills. As a team the Bisons hit at .232 percent in the match and recorded 16 blocks.
Saskatchewan's Emmalyn Copping tied Abbott for the match-high with 18 kills. Mackezine Pek recorded 38 assists and a team-high 13 digs for the Huskies. Saskatchewan hit at .124 percent and recorded 12 blocks in the match.
The two teams square off again Saturday, Dec. 3 night. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT at the PAC.
