Bison swim recruit Kelsey Wog named to National team for the 2016 Junior Pan Pacific Championships after placing third at Olympic Trials

Wog finished on podium with a bronze medal in 200m breaststroke and set a new national age group mark with a time of 2:25.42; Wog makes her second Pan Pacific team

After another successful weekend, Bison women's swimming recruit Kelsey Wog was named to the National team for 2016 Junior Pan Pacific Championships after placing third at the 2016 Canadian Olympic & Para Swimming Trials.

Wog, 17, has announced her commitment to the Bison swim program for the start of the 2016-17 varsity season and continues to shatter records before arriving at the University of Manitoba. The 5'5" women's swimmer was on the podium at the 2016 Canadian Olympic & Para Swimming Trials held from April 5-10 in Toronto. Wog was third in the women's 200m breaststroke in a time of 2:25.42. The time sets new national age groups mark for the event and she also registered the 20th fastest time in that event in the world.

In addition at the Trials, Wog was fourth in the women's 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:08.17 and eighth in the women's 200m Individual Medley (2:16.92). 

The Winnipeg native also set seven Manitoban long course swim records over the course of the weekend. In the Girls 15-17 age category, she set four new records in the 100, 200m breaststroke and 200m IM (twice) plus added three more records for the women senior age category in the 200m breaststroke and 200 IM (twice).

Wog has earned her second National team selection for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships (In 2014 – placed fifth in 100m and 200m breaststroke).

Bison Notes: Bison fifth year men's swimmer Dillon Perron ended his swimming career with three more Manitoba long course swim record for the men senior age category in the 100m breaststroke (twice) and 200m breaststroke. Perron was ninth in the men's 200m breaststroke and set the new mark in the preliminaries with a time of 2:16.68 while he also placed 15th in the men's 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:03.00.

In addition, 2015-16 Bison Sports Female Athlete of the Year and fifth year women's swimmer Kimberly Moors competed in the Trials in the 50m freestyle and placed 17th in a time of 26.53 plus in the 100m freestyle (45th place).
