Bison women’s rookie swimmer Kelsey Wog named to National team for 2016 World Short Course Championships held in Windsor, ON from December 6-11, 2016

Wog earns her first senior national team selection after successful summer performances

After a successful summer performances in 2016, Bison women's rookie swimmer Kelsey Wog was named to the National team for the 13th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) in Windsor, Ontario from December 6-11, 2016. This is the first-ever FINA World Short Course (25m) Swimming Championships to be staged in Canada.

Wog, 18, earns her first senior national swim team selection.

"Kelsey has continued to improve over the summer and an emphasis has been to improve her speed throughout the 2016 year," said Vlastimil (Vlastik) Cerny, Bison swimming head coach in his 24 year at the helm. "She has had strong results with medal podiums at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in August and has worked hard to earn her first selection onto a senior national team."

The 5'6" accomplished women's swimmer continues to impress in the pool. Wog swam to a silver medal in the women's 200m breaststroke event with a time of 2:26.51 and followed up with a third place finish in the women's 100m breaststroke (1:08.02 – a new personal best time) at the 2016 Junior Pan Pacific Championships that ran from August 24-27 in Maui, Hawaii. She also earned a silver medal in the women's 4x100m medley relay team and part of fourth place women's 4x200m freestyle relay team. That was her second National team selection for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships (In 2014 – Wog placed fifth in 100m and 200m breaststroke).

Earlier at the 2016 Canadian Swimming Championships that ran from August 4-7 in Edmonton, Wog completed a very successful national meet with two wins, placing second and two other final swims during the four day event. She won the women's 200m breaststroke by .003 of a second as she captured the event title in a time of 2:27.21 on day one. Wog captured the women's 50m breaststroke in a time of 31.70 on day two and beat her nearest competitor by almost half a second (.48).

Wog was also on the podium at the 2016 Canadian Olympic & Para Swimming Trials held from April 5-10 in Toronto. Wog was third in the women's 200m breaststroke in a time of 2:25.42. The time sets new national age groups mark for the event and she also registered the 20th fastest time in that event in the world.
